It is a holy thing to believe we are enough. It is its own tiny prophetic resistance to stop striving in a holiday season that tells us that striving is what makes us a good person, a good partner, a good parent, a good pastor.
It is a witness to Grace to say “enough.”
God, teach us to say “enough” this season.
That what we can offer is enough. That what we have time for is enough. That our spirituality is enough.
That “doing our best” sometimes means doing less, not more.
That stopping to take a breath isn’t selfish.
That “doing less” isn’t being less.
God, lead us into the spaciousness of less. Show us how holy this empty space is. Teach us how to stretch out and rest, even while everything around us roars at us to do more and be more.
May we know that every time we do less, and still believe we are enough, we are a tiny, essential witness to Grace. This is a big, fast, chaotic world that thinks we are loved because of performing, and that we’re enough because of how much we’ve done. To say “enough” to these voices is sacred resistance that the world needs so much.
This is Grace season. This is a season of Emmanuel, God With Us, God who comes to us, God who didn’t wait for us to be tidied up before She smiled and loved us and came for us. This is a season of “come as you are.” This is a season of “you are enough.”
May we brave and believe we’re enough. May we brave and say “enough” to the voices telling us that to do less is to fail.
May Christ bless your boundaries this season with the very good fruit of rest and restoration. And may you believe that rest and restoration are enough. 💜
